Introduction

The technological evolution is placing the new frontier of industry in the Smart Factory, in the concept of Industry 4.0, where sophisticated strategies based on robotics, artificial vision, electronic cards, mobile devices, etc. are integrated. In this new scenario, the industry demands professionals with a technical profile capable of individual and collective progression.

The Master’s degree in Automation, Electronics and Industrial Control, MUAECI, is the adaptation to the new academic framework of the now extinct 2nd cycle Engineering degree in Automation and Industrial Electronics at the University of Deusto that trained professionals with a high degree of employability and satisfaction for more than a decade, since more than 90% found a job in less than three months with a salary above the average. A national report published in October 2014 confirmed that this technological training ranks fourth in employability in Spain.
To enter the job market, the University of Deusto uses “learning by doing” method on the MUAECI Master’s degree. This means that the only way of learning technology is by working with it: moving robots, programming electronic systems or controlling industrial plants. Hence, it all comes down to having experienced academic staff, adequate laboratories and motivated students.

Aim and Competences

The Master’s degree in Automation, Electronics and Industrial Control, MUAECI, trains highly qualified industry professionals, capable of participating in the design of manufacturing and control processes. This master’s course provides students with a solid scientific and technical grounding and a set of transversal skills and abilities.

The master’s allows professionals to enter industry without further need to adapt, and take on the challenge to modernise the processes into which they integrate.

It also enables them to work in R&D&I departments and research centres.
 

Specifically, students on the Master’s will acquire the following skills:

  • Design, adapt and optimise automated industrial facilities of advanced manufacturing that incorporate robots, industrial robot manipulators, machine vision systems, sensors and actuators.
  • Develop software applications both on industrial computers and robots or other programmable controls in industrial scenarios of advanced manufacturing that incorporate the communication mechanisms that are necessary to carry out tasks that cooperate and interact with other elements in real time.
  • Design the electronic systems needed for the implementation of all the elements involved in an automated industrial plant in the field of advanced manufacturing, developing the most adequate software/hardware platform for each application and providing the required intelligence in each case.
  • Design, develop and implement intelligent automated control strategies in the field of advanced manufacturing that go beyond those usually applied in process control.
